GELSOMINA
The Gelsomina Project is a study of the practical applications of a TEPS-based propulsion group for high-altitude missions (between 30,000 and 50,000 feet). It aims to create a new, cost-effective alternative to satellite communication systems, with the opportunity to add additional services. GELSOMINA aims to help offer competitive alternatives to current terrestrial telecommunications.
The Gelsomina Project hopes to accomplish this by developing and producing a piston engine that is optimized for use at stratospheric level. The final version of this will be integrated with a cell, very similar to a motor-glider, and will use propulsion that is hybrid endothermic/electric (from PV cells) and will be easy to reconfigure for both manned aircraft and UAV applications.
